The people who are saying that the staff is rude and that's why they gave them 1 star, I will say this. Do not go here on a Sunday morning if you are looking for a traditional restaurant experience with a pleasant server waiting on your hand and foot. That's not how it works here. You get amazing Cantonese food, some of the best in Portland, for a reasonable price. They are too busy and serve too many people to deal with your bullshit. Just know what to expect when you are going on a busy Sunday and you will have a good experience.

Kung hei fat choi! Celebrated the Lunar New Year at HK Cafe. The place was hopping on a weekday, families and friends were celebrating. We were seated immediately, water and jasmine tea can within a minuet. The ladies with the dim sum carts came by with delicious morsels. Roast duck, egg tarts, steamed charsui bau, large har gau, shu mai, we were too full to get more. Come early, there was a crowd waiting when were leaving. Lots of free parking.

I am obsessed with this place. We have always been able to get a seat right away (Granted we've been going as a party of 2 not a big group) and the service is so fun. It's a fun and unique experience to just be able to point at things and have them handed to you immediately rather than ordering and waiting. Its always a bustling and fun atmosphere as well. And of course, the food is fantastic. We love trying new things and this is the perfect place for someone who's feeling a little bit adventurous. We always order too much though, thankfully they let you take home leftovers. This is one of those gems that I'm really happy that I have gotten to eat at. It's certainly no secret location but its far enough from where we live that it feels like an adventure every time.

Visited when I was home in Portland over winter break on the day after Christmas. Visited around noon and did not need to wait for a table. Fast service and felt like we got to see all the carts relatively quickly. Loved that the dim sum was not too salty. We tried the shrimp dumplings, pork spare ribs, siu mai, chive and shrimp dumpling, shanghi style dumplings, deep fried pork dumpling, and baked egg yolk bun. My favorite was the chive and shrimp dumpling. I just wish the baked egg yolk bun had a runny center. I am sure that I will be back

I laugh at the majority of 1 star reviews have only posted 1-3 times max and for those who think staff is rude, they literally treat everyone the same (unless you're a regular or speak their language) and I've gone here several times and gotten the same straight forward service which is common at establishments like this. Anyhow, food selection is always good, ladies do a good job going from table to table (but do get stuck on those tables who don't know what things are or just indecisive) I've never gotten a cold food item unlike some of the reviews here but it happens at every restaurant, just ask for a replacement. Ambience hasn't changed since I've lived here in Portland and is nostalgic, I like that they haven't modernized things or change things up to. This would be a 5 star place to me if they were a little faster with water and sauces refills but overall I've always had a good experience here with good service and good food. I would give this place a 4.5 overall cause I do love seeing the balloon person there and it's always entertaining to me.

Incredible dim sum selection right before the dinner rush. The shumai is so fat and delicious I wanted to have a hundred pieces. We wanted to try a little of everything and I loved it all, my one negative was that the chopsticks were shiny so the more slippery dim sum would fly off the chopsticks and I splashed myself with chili oil a lot haha but the food was incredible and the prices were great. This restaurant was huge and even had live seafood. Would be a great place for a big party.

Had a fantastic lunch at HK Café! I really enjoy a great dim sum and I swear it is getting harder to find restaurants that have the pushcarts full of tasty small bites. I was thrilled to eat here and find that dining experience. The restaurant was very large and very busy. We sat at the back wall and the carts were a constant parade by our table. Each cart was full of hot, fresh food. The pork shumai was fabulous! They were among the chunkiest pork shumai that I have ever eaten. They were meaty, hot, and delicious. The shrimp dumplings were super tender and perfectly cooked. The steamed pork hum bao was tender and fluffy. Everything I ate was marvelous. The service was typical of a restaurant like this - they would come by with a cart, offer a variety of food, and move on. They kept the table clean of all empty dishes which of course only encouraged us to eat more food. Seriously it was really good!

Ambiance: super busy during weekend lunch time, yet, because the place is huge and they have a lot of waitstaff, you get seated within 10 mins. Came during dinner time, not as busy. Service Quality: great service considering how busy they are. You get your tea and drinks as soon as you are seated. They have a lot of carts that go around for their dimsum items. You can order for as well and wait is not that long. Food Quality: great 95% of the time. I would definitely come back! In fact, we come here at least once a month even if we have to drive an hour to get here. We live on the other side of town.

We had a Chinese Banquet of all these dishes! This is a great place to host large banquets. The food is amazing, and the service is outstanding. They have banquets menus for you to choose from. Party down at HK Cafe!
